Abimbola Olowookere, a teacher with the Osun State Ministry of Education, has been suspended after it was claimed that he defrauded some newly hired teachers out of N30,000 by pretending to influence their placement.
According to sources, Mr. Olowookere solicited money from the teachers in the Osun East Education District in exchange for influence over their postings to chosen locations outside the district. The ministry learned of this behavior, it is said.
The State Commissioner for Education, Mr Folorunsho Oladoyin, who condemned the act, advised the recently recruited teachers not to listen to anyone who demands money or other gratification from them under the guise of influencing their postings.
Mr Oladoyin however warned any teacher or official of government who is still in the act of collecting money before rendering one service or the other to desist from it or be ready to face the full weight of the law.
