Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday tasked the University of Lagos to win the forthcoming 2022 Nigerian Universities Games, while promising that his administration would support the games with human and material resources.

Sanwo-Olu, an alumnus of the university, made this known while receiving the 2022 Nigerian Universities Games “Torch of Unity” at Lagos House Marina, from a delegation of the UNILAG, the host university.

The 26th NUGA Games is scheduled to hold from March 16 to 26, 2022 at the UNILAG campus and other sports facilities in Lagos State, with over 10,000 students expected to participate in the event.

The Governor said his administration would provide an enabling environment for sports and youth development, as well as utilise the tourism potential of Lagos to build future leaders.

He congratulated the management of UNILAG for winning the hosting rights of NUGA 2022, saying the sports competition would further bring about unity and togetherness among students and youths from different parts of Nigeria.

He also implored students and youths to use NUGA 2022 as a platform to discuss more on ways of bringing peace and building the nation.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, UNILAG, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, said NUGA would go beyond sports, but also boost the tourism potential of Lagos State during the games.
